It started when my daughter Cassie sent me an email with a link for the charity auction on eBay. (She knows I've been wanting to go to New Zealand since 1981. I was even looking into working there for a couple of years.)
Knowing there can be scams on auctions I was very skeptical at first. - May 2009 press release -
But after researching the charity, Untouched World Charity Trust, Untouchedworld.com ,as well as the seller, New Zealand Luxury, newzealandluxury.com ...and some emails, I was convinced the auction was authentic. The final hour of the auction the price was still around $2,000. I continued to watch and when it was getting close to the end, I called up Cassie to get her opinion. She said it sounded like a good deal. The auction was worth about $24,000 USD. I figured I would pay up to $5,000 and knowing most charity auctions usually go very high, I didn't think I had a chance. I entered the bid with a little under a minute left and the bidding went crazy. The other bidders kept incrementally pushing the bid up but did not enter their top bid amount. They ran out of time and I won the auction for $4,600. I was stunned to say the least...
WINNING PRESS RELEASE
Neil of New Zealand Luxury was very helpful and after a month from the auction's end, the payment was received on their end and the vouchers received on ours....whew!
All the New Zealand Luxury members that generously donated 100% of the prize to the Untouched World Charity Trust were also extremely helpful in coordinating the trip. More on each individual member in future posts.
